New creations from old parts

We have been hard at work creating new items from found objects and architectural salvage. These items have been handmade right here in our shop and are ready to be put to use in your home, business or garden. This café table was created by our resident welder Bryan Kirby from recycled farm equipment parts including a mower blade, tractor wheel, gears, steel weight, as well as a salvaged glass top.

Bryan has also completed this six foot armillary that actually moves! We are pleased to offer repair services on metal fixtures of all types. Please contact Bryan for details (804) 232-4175.

Our craftsman Bill McCallister has also been busy experimenting with all types of media including items made from old doors like the bar pictured below as well as mirrors and stained glass pieces.

This stained glass panel was made from an old piece of Florentine glass and a stained glass fish has been embedded in the panel!

Another experiment produced this old window sash with Coy painted in the panes and then fired to permanently adhere the special paint to the glass.

Mirrors have been made like this one with stained glass inlayed into the wooden frame with a foil backing giving the pieces an iridescent glow when exposed to light.
If you have an idea for an item that you would like to transform into a piece of art or functional furniture we’d love to make it a reality for you.

Lighting Reinvented

Our lighting specialists Linda McCallister and Tommy Hamilton are also working hard to restore old lighting fixtures to their original beauty and creating new fixtures from interesting pieces like the below funnel and spring light by Tommy Hamilton.

New - Old Millwork

We have begun to recreate old millwork such as bull’s eye blocks, plinths, corner beads and balusters.  These have been made to historical specifications and we welcome custom orders as well.

Church Demolition

Caravati’s is in the process of carefully dismantling a historic church north of Richmond.  This job will produce some great lumber as well as corbel brackets, beaded board and German siding.  Look for these materials to be arriving in our store soon!
